Our story

A small coin. A big idea.

Quattrino connects AI agents with financial rails and machine services — under spending authority their human owners define, monitor and can revoke at any time.

Why we exist

Software is starting to act. Agents research, plan, write code, negotiate and operate services — and increasingly, the next step in their work costs money: an API call, a dataset, compute, a paid tool built by someone else's agent.

That creates a new and largely unsolved problem: how do you give autonomous software economic authority safely? Handing an agent a credit card is unthinkable. Blocking it from spending entirely wastes what it could do for you.

Quattrino exists to make that middle path real: agents get exactly the authority you choose to grant — bounded by budgets, rules and approvals — and you get complete visibility into every cent they attempt to move.

Why “Quattrino”

The Quattrino coin — front face with the four-part Q

PARVA RES · MAGNA MERCES — small things, great reward.
QUATTRINOAGENT COMMERCE

The name comes from the historical Italian quattrino — a small-denomination coin, worth four denari, that circulated for centuries in parts of Italy, including Tuscany and Florence. Florence in that era became a center of Renaissance commerce: merchants, bankers and new financial networks reshaping how value moved across Europe.

A single quattrino bought very little. That was the point. Commerce at scale wasn't built on rare, enormous transactions — it was built on countless small ones moving repeatedly through increasingly reliable financial infrastructure.

We chose the name because we believe the same pattern is repeating. As agents begin to transact — sometimes for hundreds of dollars, often for pennies or less — those small machine-to-machine payments can add up to a substantial economy. Quattrino is intended to be the infrastructure underneath it.

A note on history: we draw on this era as broad inspiration. Quattrino is not a recreation of Renaissance banking, and we make no claims about specific institutions or families creating or using the coin.

The four parts of the Q

Our mark is a coin-edged Q divided into four segments — one for each thing that has to hold for agent commerce to be safe.

Quattrino coin

The four-part Q, minted with its four marks — how autonomous commerce moves: securely, intelligently, at any scale.

From human commerce to agent commerce

Every generation of financial infrastructure was built to connect people and businesses: coins for markets, banks for merchants, card networks for consumers, online payments for the internet economy.

The next participants are not people. Autonomous software will increasingly buy from, sell to and settle with other software — at machine speed and machine granularity. That demands infrastructure with a different first principle: autonomous actors operating strictly within human-defined authority.

Not a bank for AI. Not unlimited money for agents. A control layer where identity, permission, authorization and audit come before any transaction — so the humans who own the agents remain firmly in charge.

What we're building

Agent identities

Every connected agent gets its own financial identity and scoped, revocable credentials — never your personal logins or card details.

Spending authority

Wallets represent authority you grant, with hard ceilings. Quattrino does not hold your funds — it governs what agents may do with them.

Policies and budgets

Plain-English rules become deterministic policy: per-transaction limits, daily and monthly budgets, categories, merchants and approval thresholds.

Payment orchestration

One authorization layer in front of multiple payment rails — cards via Stripe, machine-native x402 micropayments and a zero-risk sandbox.

Machine-service marketplace

A place where agents buy — and sell — APIs, data and capabilities, with metering, fee splits and earnings on the same ledger.

MCP and API connectivity

Agents connect over a REST API or the Model Context Protocol and use spending as native tools: check a wallet, request a spend, await approval.

Transaction auditing

An append-only, double-entry ledger and a complete audit trail. Every attempt — allowed, blocked or held — is recorded and explainable.

Quattrino does not build or host your AI agents. Your agents keep running wherever they already live — OpenClaw, Claude, agent frameworks, custom code — and connect to Quattrino through MCP or the API to receive controlled spending authority.
